First anniversary of Messi waving goodbye to Barca

Now, Barca supporters all over the world have the fifth of August circled on their calendars. Messi’s departure from the club was announced by “Los Azulgranas” on this date in 2021. One year later, “Los Cules” are still without him and have even mentioned the possibility of the PSG player’s comeback.

Leo Messi started playing professional football at the age of 17 for Barcelona. He played there till he was 33 years old. On August 5th, 2021, his 16-year tenure at the Camp Nou mercilessly came to an end.

It was not financially feasible to extend his contract due to the club’s precarious financial status. Joan Laporta remarked on the subject, “No one can be above the club.” Messi was forced to leave his beloved Barcelona since he had no other choice.

Since this day, a year has gone. Leo Messi moved to PSG, and he has since made 35 appearances for the French team, making 12 goals and 14 assists in the process.

It wasn’t easy sailing for him in his first season away from Camp Nou. The star received criticism for taking too long to adjust to his new team, and his goal total was far lower than the 38 he scored in his final season with Barca.

Messi was unable to contain his tears as he said the club farewell, and the sights were upsetting for any “Cule” to witness. Even after a year has passed, the wound is still open.

At Camp Nou, nobody has forgotten about him. In fact, rumors have circulated that he would make a comeback after his deal with PSG expires in 2023.

After a year without Messi, the president of “Los Azulgranas,” who had claimed that nobody could be above the club, addressed the issue, saying, “I have a moral duty to him; we’ll see what happens.” And Xavi, who spent a lot of time in the Argentine’s locker room, thinks that he ought to be in charge of managing Messi. Regarding his potential comeback, the Barca coach said, “He deserves a second opportunity.”

If Messi will ever again wear a Barcelona jersey, only time will tell. One thing is certain, though: a year later, Barca supporters are still without the star.
