Lionel Messi Greeted by Fans at Airport as Argentine Star Returns to Barcelona With Family

Lionel Messi was forced to leave his childhood club Barcelona ten months ago, but the Catalan giants’ fans and supporters have recently shown that their affection for the Argentine has not faded. Messi and his family landed in the city of Barcelona on Wednesday for a summer vacation. The striker, who is 34 years old, was stopped for photographs. As his wife Antonella and their three children strolled among the delighted supporters, Messi had to sign merchandised items as well.

On social media, a video of Messi being greeted at the Barcelona airport has gone viral. Fans couldn’t help but share their delight on Twitter.

Messi was photographed at the airport by a Twitter user. The description on the Twitter post said, “From the arrival of the legend Messi and his family to Barcelona.”

Messi was met by Barcelona fans at the airport, according to another user. “For his summer holidays, PSG star Lionel Messi travels to Barcelona with his family and is met by adoring supporters at the airport. “As he landed down with his family in the Catalan capital on Wednesday, Messi’s family was received warmly,” said the caption of the post.

Messi moved to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) from Barcelona ahead of the 2021-22 season, but the Argentine still owns a home in the Catalan capital. Messi had appeared in 778 games for Barcelona, scoring 672 goals. Messi won 34 titles and six Ballon d’Or awards during his time with Barcelona.

Messi did not had a particularly successful season recently. After 34 games for PSG, he managed to score 11 goals. He scored six goals and assisted on 14 others in Ligue 1 to help PSG win the domestic league title.

Messi had a terrific experience on the international stage, as Argentina won the Finalissima with a 3-0 victory over Italy. Messi did not find the back of the net, but he did give two crucial assists in the summit showdown.
